Kremlin, Lasting Peace With Ukraine Is Still A Long Way’ Off” -Dmitry Peskov

Despite a brief ceasefire, the Kremlin claims that lasting peace with Ukraine is still “a long way off.”
Despite the current three-day ceasefire between the two sides, the Kremlin said that reaching a permanent peace deal with Ukraine is still “a long and difficult path.”
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, emphasized that territorial issues related to Ukraine are still very complicated, but he said it was understandable that the United States wants to move quickly toward ending the war.
Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president’s foreign policy adviser, also stressed that the current ceasefire only applies to the dates of May 9–11. He added that future talks may resume after that, though no timetable has been established.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said that both sides had decided to halt military operations during the ceasefire period and proceed with a significant prisoner exchange involving 1,000 inmates from each side.
Trump also thanked Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, and Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, for their cooperation and expressed hope that the temporary ceasefire would eventually be extended.
The most recent events coincide with the ongoing focus on whether the current ceasefire could pave the way for more extensive peace talks following years of conflict.
