Tinubu commissions TETFund projects across four tertiary institutions

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that continued investment in education is still essential to reducing Nigeria’s skills gap and enhancing learning outcomes. He also commissioned a number of TETFund-funded infrastructure projects across tertiary institutions in the states of Nasarawa, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Bauchi.

As part of the nationwide commissioning activities commemorating the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration, the projects were carried out by the Federal Ministry of Education through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

During the commissioning ceremonies, the President stated that investments in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education would have a long-term effect on the standard of education and the growth of the country.

“When you build a classroom, you build a generation,” the president stated in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, his special advisor on information and strategy.

Tinubu declared, “The quality of every Nigerian schoolchild for decades to come will be determined by the investment we are making in our colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities today.”

In order to improve the institution’s ability to train science teachers for basic and post-basic schools throughout the state, the president ordered the construction of a new School of Science Complex at the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga.

Conventional reading areas, specialized staff and student e-libraries, the chief librarian’s office, secretarial offices, and reference and inquiry sections are all located within the two-story building.

Tinubu opened two significant projects at the Nigerian Defence Academy’s Afaka Campus in Kaduna: a new Biodiversity and Conservation Center and a renovated Senate Building.

A 60-seat Senate Council Chamber, conference rooms, executive offices, elevators, CCTV and access control systems, public address and emergency evacuation facilities, integrated fire suppression systems, and a solar-powered backup energy system backed by lithium battery storage are all features of the Senate Building.

By offering resources for biodiversity documentation, academic studies, and applied conservation research, the Biodiversity and Conservation Center is anticipated to strengthen the academy’s capacity for environmental science research.

The president declared that funding for the country’s top military training facility would remain a top priority for the federal government.

He declared, “Our Armed Forces deserve the best—in training, in equipment, and in the institutions that shape their character.”

We will keep funding the Nigerian Defence Academy, which is at the center of that mission.

Under the TETFund 2024 Special High Impact Intervention, Tinubu commissioned a newly built Classrooms Complex at Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, in Jigawa State.

The facility is anticipated to alleviate the institution’s long-standing classroom shortage and offer staff and students a more favorable learning environment.

The polytechnic, which produces middle-level personnel in engineering, applied sciences, environmental studies, business, and management, is recognized as one of the top technical education establishments in the Northwest.

The president stated that polytechnics are essential to Nigeria’s industrial and economic development, reiterating his administration’s commitment to technical and vocational education.

He declared, “Our polytechnics are the engine room of Nigeria’s technical workforce.”

We will keep funding their staff, labs, and classrooms. Lecture halls won’t be the only source of the skills our economy needs. They will come from hands trained in real workshops.”

The president of Bauchi State officially opened a brand-new dorm for students at Sa’adu Zungur University’s Gadau Campus.

After 48 weeks of construction, the hostel—which was provided as part of the TETFund 2024 Annual Intervention program—was finished at a cost of N738.96 million and is ready for immediate occupancy.

The presidency claims that the facility will greatly enhance student welfare by easing housing issues and fostering the institution’s increasing enrollment.

Tinubu praised the leadership of the beneficiary institutions, contractors, consultants, the TETFund management, and the Minister of Education for making sure the projects were completed successfully.

He urged staff and students to maintain the facilities to the highest standards and to use them appropriately.
