Olujuwon Obasanjo Takes Up New Political Role, Throws Weight Behind Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

Olujuwon Obasanjo, son of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition, joining the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement as its Special Adviser on Political Affairs.
Olujuwon made his position known during a visit to the movement’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, where he was formally received by the organisation’s National Coordinator, Sunday Adekanbi Asuku.
His appointment comes as political activities and mobilisation efforts begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, with different support groups expanding their networks in preparation for the next presidential contest.
During the visit, Olujuwon described his appointment as an honour and privilege, expressing appreciation to the movement for giving him an opportunity to contribute to its activities. He also commended the organisation for its grassroots mobilisation efforts, community engagement and campaign to promote the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration.
The former president’s son disclosed that he had been following the movement’s activities for some time and was impressed by its approach to reaching people across different communities. He expressed readiness to use his political experience to support the organisation’s objectives and contribute to the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election.
Explaining his decision to support the President, Olujuwon said he believed Tinubu had made a positive start in office and argued that Nigerians, particularly young people, should participate in efforts to sustain the administration’s reforms.
He identified salary payments, infrastructure development and investment opportunities as some of the areas where he believed progress had been recorded under the current administration. According to him, continued support for the President would provide an opportunity for the government to consolidate its policies and build on the gains it believes it has achieved.
Olujuwon also spoke about his political background, revealing that he had been a member of the All Progressives Congress since 2014. He explained that members of his family were allowed to maintain independent political opinions and pursue their individual political interests without hostility.
His declaration is particularly notable because his father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has publicly expressed political differences with Tinubu. His elder sister, Iyabo Obasanjo, is also seeking a senatorial seat under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
However, Olujuwon maintained that political differences within a family should not prevent individual members from making their own political choices. His decision to support Tinubu therefore reflects his personal political position and should not automatically be interpreted as an endorsement by other members of the Obasanjo family.
Welcoming him into the movement, Asuku described Olujuwon as a politically experienced individual whose knowledge of leadership and governance would contribute to the organisation’s mobilisation activities.
He expressed confidence that the new appointee would bring useful experience and political understanding to the movement as it continues to expand its presence across the country.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is focused on building grassroots support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Its activities are centred on taking the administration’s message directly to communities and encouraging supporters to participate in its mobilisation efforts.
With Olujuwon’s appointment, the organisation will be looking to draw on his political experience as it continues its campaign activities. His entry also adds another political development to the growing list of alignments and declarations emerging ahead of the next general election.
As the 2027 political season approaches, more political figures, support groups and stakeholders are expected to make their positions known. Olujuwon’s decision has already attracted attention because of his family background and the political differences associated with his father.
