Video: I don’t judge sex workers — Shaffy Bello

Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has stated that she understands why some young women participate in “runs,” or transactional relationships, but she has advised them not to stick with that lifestyle indefinitely, emphasizing the value of development, dignity, and self-worth beyond survival decisions.

During a recent episode of The Morayo Show, which is hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the actress gave the advice while discussing societal pressure, economic realities, and the difficulties many young women encounter in their quest for survival. She emphasized the importance of resilience and self-empowerment, encouraging the audience to embrace their unique journeys. By sharing personal stories and practical strategies, she aimed to inspire hope and foster a sense of community among women facing similar challenges.

Speaking candidly in the interview, Bello made it clear that she does not condemn women who turn to sex work because of difficult financial situations.

“If you currently work as a run girl to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand. I’m not teasing you. “I never pass judgment,” she said.

The actress noted that many women are compelled to make these decisions in order to support their families or finance the education of their younger siblings.

If it’s what they have to do to make a living at the moment, some girls are doing it in order to feed their mothers. They have to send their aburo to school. “I get it,” she went on. “Every choice comes with its own struggles and sacrifices, and it’s important to acknowledge the strength it takes to navigate those challenges.” Her voice softened, reflecting a deep empathy for those faced with such difficult circumstances.

But Bello insisted that women should view it as merely a passing phase and aim higher.

But don’t stay there, my sweethearts. She said, “You are more than that.”

The actress also discussed self-worth and the increasing pressure on women to look to their appearance and social media attention for approval.

There are far too many babies and kids out there who need to hear me say, “No, you don’t have to show your boobs to be sexy.” She said, “You don’t need to shake your bum bum to go viral or get attention.”

When considering her own career, Bello clarified that she is still more concerned with acting and using her position to motivate others than she is with pursuing every chance to become wealthy or well-known.
