POLITICS 2027: Lagos APC assures candidates of a free and equitable governorship primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State chapter has promised candidates running for the party’s governorship ticket a transparent, equitable, and reliable primary election prior to the 2027 elections.

Samuel Ajose, a front-runner for governor, received the assurance on Thursday during a meeting with party leaders.

Following the meeting, Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi declared that all candidates would have equal chances in the governorship primary on May 21. He spoke with Lateef Ibirogba, the party’s Southwest Organizing Secretary.

Ojelabi stated that the party would conduct the exercise strictly in accordance with established protocols and provisions of the Electoral Act.

“He is not a recent addition to the group. It’s a family visit,.. Ojelabi stated. “He came to formally announce his intention and share his vision for Lagos State.”

We gave him our word that the party would follow national guidelines and hold direct or consensus primaries. Every candidate will have equal opportunities in an open and reliable process.

The chairman of the Lagos APC went on to say that the party was still dedicated to orderly political participation and internal democracy.

He pointed out that the party’s internal procedures were robust and inclusive, as evidenced by the consultations conducted by candidates from various local government districts.

“Our strength is demonstrated by the fact that our candidates confer with members of various local governments prior to the primary. Nigerians will soon see an open internal competition, he continued.

In his speech, Ajose denied rumors that he had pulled out of the contest, stating that he was still fully committed to running.

I will run for office, by God’s grace. We asked for guarantees, and the chairman welcomed us more than we could have imagined,” he said.

“The process will be free, fair, and credible, according to the leadership.”

Ajose also promised to accept the results of the primary, emphasizing that all members must respect party supremacy.

He added that members of the SMA movement would rally support for President Bola Tinubu prior to the 2027 election, saying, “Whatever the party decides, we will abide by it.”

“We want to deliver 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Lagos in 2027,” he continued.
