World Cup 2026, FIFA Has Reaffirm Jay Jay Okocha’s World Cup Historic Dribbling Records

Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha continues to hold the record for the most successful dribbles in a single FIFA World Cup match, according to the world football governing body FIFA.

Okocha made 15 successful dribbles during Nigeria’s Round of 16 match against the Italy National Football Team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, according to FIFA. This accomplishment is still unparalleled over thirty years later.

Against a strong Italian team that included well-known players like Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Costacurta, and Demetrio Albertini, the former captain of the Super Eagles reached the milestone.

FIFA pointed out that even though a number of elite dribblers have emerged over the years, the record still stands. With 13 successful dribbles in a single World Cup game, former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne and former Brazilian forward Jairzinho are tied for second place.

Eusebio, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, and Jamal Musiala are among the other legendary players who are regarded as the best dribblers in the competition.

FIFA also noted that Maradona continues to be the player with the most successful dribbles in a single tournament, with 53 during the 1986 World Cup, while Lionel Messi holds the record for the most successful dribbles across all World Cup appearances, with 125.

The honor solidifies Okocha’s standing as one of Nigeria’s most renowned athletes and one of the most talented football players in World Cup history.
