A newlywed couple and four other passengers have been abducted by suspected bandits along the Iyemero-Eruku route around the Kwara-Kogi border area, triggering a joint search operation involving security agencies from three neighbouring states.
The victims have been identified as Funmilayo Bamidele and her husband, Reverend Abiodun David. They were reportedly travelling with four other people when their vehicle was intercepted by armed men on Saturday evening.
The group was said to be returning from an engagement ceremony in Eruku, Kwara State, when the incident occurred.
The journey reportedly took an unexpected route after the driver opted to use a back road instead of the planned route. The vehicle was initially expected to travel through the Isanlu Road, but the driver reportedly diverted towards Iyamoye in Kogi State to drop off the best man and some other members of the group.
It was along the alternative route that the travellers were reportedly intercepted by the armed attackers.
The abductors subsequently took the couple and the other occupants away, leaving the vehicle behind.
