Kwankwaso Indirectly Working For Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election -Sunusi Tofa, Director General of Media, Kano State

Sunusi Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity at Kano Government House, has made the shocking claim that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, is indirectly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in advance of the general elections in 2027.
In response to current political developments and alignments ahead of the upcoming election cycle, Tofa made the assertion on Wednesday during an appearance on the Arise News morning program.
He claims that recent political actions and strategic interactions throughout the nation point to a subtle collaboration between some opposition leaders and the ruling All Progressives Congress, with Kwankwaso’s political calculations ultimately expected to support Tinubu’s aspirations for a second term.
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, is strategically or indirectly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection campaign. Prior to 2027, a number of political initiatives and strategic engagements are already underway, and many of them will ultimately benefit President Tinubu, he stated.
The government spokesperson also revealed that Governor Abba Yusuf had approached Tinubu about plans to defect to the APC with Kwankwaso’s approval, and that Aminu Gwarzo, the former deputy governor of Kano State, had supported the purported move.
Tofa went on to say that because of what he called the conservative nature of the state’s political climate, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi might encounter political obstacles in Kano.
“Ideology, history, and regional considerations shape political acceptance in Kano,” he stated.
Additionally, he denied reports that roughly five million supporters attended a recent event at Kwankwaso’s Kano home, calling the number wildly inflated.
Such capacity is lacking in Kano’s major public venues. He continued, “Kwankwaso’s home cannot hold more than 2,000 people.
As of the time this report was filed, attempts to get responses from Kwankwaso had failed.
Since the general elections in 2023, the political relationship between Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the current Kano State government has been one of the most closely monitored and hotly debated aspects of Nigerian politics.
Former governor, former defense minister, and two-term senator Kwankwaso continues to be one of the most powerful political figures in the Northwest, with a devoted fan base known as the Kwankwasiyya movement, which can be recognized by their distinctive red caps.
On the New Nigeria Peoples Party platform, Kwankwaso ran for president in 2023 and did well in Kano State but poorly nationally.
Yusuf, who ran on the NNPP platform and defeated the APC’s candidate, was also widely credited with winning the governorship thanks to his political apparatus.
Since then, though, Kwankwaso and Yusuf’s relationship has started to show signs of strain due to disagreements over appointments, political direction, and state administration.
