Nigerian schoolgirls excel in an international AI competition.

After winning the International AI Youth Education Society’s (AIYES) Outstanding Organization Award in the global AI Youth Competition, Ado Girls Secondary School in Onitsha, Anambra State, has gained recognition on a global scale.

This accomplishment is a part of TechQuest STEM Academy’s Digital Access Program, which is being carried out in collaboration with Cummins Inc. and is currently providing 750 students and 10 teachers with fundamental and cutting-edge digital skills.

The award highlights the students’ quick development just two months into the program and honors the school’s exceptional performance in the competition, which took place between December 2025 and February 2026. The positive impact of this initiative extends beyond the classroom, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration among the students. As they continue to learn and grow, the program aims to equip them with the tools necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

This accomplishment highlights how early access to structured digital and AI education can have a transformative effect, especially for young girls attending public secondary schools.

The Head of Service for Anambra State, Barr., spoke about the milestone. “It is especially satisfying to note that your school, under the TechQuest Digital Access Programme (TQDAP), funded by the Cummins Foundation Inc., competed credibly alongside students,” said Ngozi Anuli Iwouno. Teams from developed nations like the US, UK, China, and Russia stood out with numerous international accolades.

Cummins Inc.’s Corporate Responsibility Leader for Africa and the Middle East is also commenting. The company is dedicated to supporting its host communities, according to Ify Alex Anene: “At Cummins, we are committed to powering a positive difference in the communities where our employees work and live.” The accomplishments of the students at Ado Girls Secondary School serve as a potent example of what can occur when young girls are provided with the necessary resources, guidance, and chances to succeed in the digital era, according to Anene. This dedication not only empowers the students but also fosters a sense of responsibility among the youth to give back to their communities. By investing in education and skill development, Cummins is helping to nurture future leaders who will drive innovation and positive change. These future leaders are not only equipped with technical skills but also possess the confidence to challenge societal norms and advocate for equality. As they grow and advance in their careers, these young women will undoubtedly inspire others to follow in their footsteps, creating a ripple effect of empowerment throughout their communities

Charles Emembolu, co-founder of TechQuest STEM Academy, stated that the students’ success on the international stage is a sign of what is possible with the correct infrastructure.

“This is more than just an Ado Girls victory. It is an indication of what is feasible on a large scale. Our youth can produce results that satisfy international standards if we give them the proper resources, curriculum, and assistance. Our current goal is to implement this model in more schools,” he stated.

At the school’s Career Fair Day, students showcased their accomplishments alongside school administration, Cummins representatives, and the TechQuest team, bringing the award—which was initially given virtually—to life.

Beyond recognition, the Digital Access Program is intended to have a long-term impact by enhancing teacher capacity, integrating digital skills into the school ecosystem, and establishing avenues for global opportunities, advanced learning, and innovation.

The program demonstrates a common dedication to closing the digital divide, promoting gender inclusion, and creating a workforce prepared for the future. This initiative not only empowers educators but also fosters collaboration among students, enabling them to engage with diverse perspectives and ideas. As a result, the program paves the way for a more equitable and connected learning environment that benefits all participants. Through these efforts, participants are better equipped to tackle the challenges of a rapidly changing world. By embracing technology and inclusivity, the initiative cultivates a generation of learners who are not only skilled but also socially responsible.
