Promoted EFL club release eight players including defender who made 70 appearances for Arsenal

Carl Jenkinson left Bromley after being promoted to the league. This season, the team has confirmed one.

Jenkinson, who played for Arsenal for eight years and made 70 appearances, will become a free agent this summer.

In 2024, after the team had just been promoted to the Football League, the 34-year-old joined League One.

He played for the team 18 times in all, including 16 in League Two, one in the FA Cup, and one in the EFL Trophy.

However, Bromley has decided not to offer the right-back a new contract to keep him for an additional year, so his time there is now over.

With their contracts up, seven more players have also departed the team. As the team looks to rebuild for the upcoming season, fans are left wondering who will fill the gaps left by these departures. The management is expected to seek new talent to strengthen the squad and improve their chances for better performance in the league.

Byron Webster, Brooklyn Ilunga, Sam Long, Marcus Dinanga, Sam German, Frankie Moralee and Tade Ibrahim have all gone.

A second ex-Arsenal defender in Zech Medley is also departing, along with Jenkinson, as he returns to parent club Fleetwood Town.

Frankie Moralee, Tade Ibrahim, Marcus Dinanga, Sam German, Byron Webster, Brooklyn Ilunga, and Sam Long have all vanished.

Along with Jenkinson, Zech Medley, another former Arsenal defender, is leaving to rejoin parent club Fleetwood Town.

They were not fortunate enough to start their League One season with an extension.

Grant Smith, Corey Whitely, Marcus, Ashley Charles, and Omar Sowunmi all had their contracts’ options activated.

Freddie Taylor, George Evans, and Dillon Addai are also staying.

As of right now, Jude Arthurs and Idris Odutayo are negotiating new contracts with Bromley.

Jenkinson’s career to date

If Jenkinson chooses to pursue his playing career, he will be searching for a new team this summer.

After beginning his career at Charlton in 2010, the full-back moved to Arsenal in 2011 and lived at the Emirates Stadium for eight years.

During his time with the Gunners, he made 70 appearances in all competitions, contributing five assists and one goal.

Before joining Nottingham Forest in 2019, Jenkinson also played on loan at West Ham and Birmingham.

After three years at the City Ground, he underwent a significant transition by moving to Australia to play for Melbourne City and the Newcastle Jets during a two-year stay.

After helping Bromley get promoted after returning from Australian football in 2024, he has since moved on.

Losing out on a unique year

After a campaign that makes history, Jenkinson departs Bromley.

The Ravens have never participated in a league game. One previously, but after being promoted, they will do so the following season.

Andy Woodman’s team won the championship with 87 points following an incredible season that featured 24 victories.

They played in the EFL for the first time in their history just two years ago, when Jenkinson joined.

However, they will now move up to the third tier for the upcoming term. This advancement reflects their hard work and dedication throughout the previous season. The team is eager to face new challenges and build on their success.
