The winner of the APC House of Representatives primary for the Ekiti North I Constituency is Akin Rotimi Jr.

In the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Ekiti North I (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency, Representative Akintunde Rotimi Jr. emerged victorious, winning 22 of the constituency’s 24 wards.
Nine candidates fiercely competed in the primary, and the incumbent emerged victorious, defeating Bimbo Daramola, a former member of the 7th Assembly, along with Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Mr. Gbenga Joseph, Prince Ayorinde Ejioye, and Engineer Ayo Omotosho.
Three candidates withdrew and supported the incumbent in the run-up to the exercise, gradually narrowing the field.
Barr, Mr. Kayode Omoboya, and Chief Mrs. Funke Owoseni were among those who stepped up. Prior to the primaries, Yemi Ayodele Ayeni publicly supported the incumbent’s bid for reelection.
The chairmen of all eight local government areas and local council development areas, as well as all councillors, ward chairmen, women leaders, youth leaders, and other important political office holders throughout Ekiti State, gathered for a significant constituency-wide endorsement two days prior to the exercise.
All of the stakeholders supported the incumbent, characterizing his representation as dependable, approachable, and goal-oriented.
The result highlights the constituency’s changing political landscape. Since leaving office in 2015, Bimbo Daramola has made several unsuccessful attempts to rejoin the National Assembly in subsequent election cycles.
Rep. Rotimi had previously defeated him in the general elections of 2023, a contest that strengthened Rotimi’s popularity and electoral power in Ekiti North I.
During the 10th Assembly, Representative Rotimi, who is currently the House of Representatives’ spokesperson, developed a reputation for active participation in national discourse, organized communication of parliamentary activities, and legislative visibility.
He is now one of the more prominent voices in the House thanks to his position as spokesperson, which has further improved his standing in the legislature.
Internal party democracy within the APC was highlighted by the election’s peaceful and competitive conduct, which ultimately resulted in a clear and decisive mandate for the incumbent ahead of the general election cycle. This positive outcome not only reflects the party’s unity but also sets a precedent for future elections, emphasizing the importance of transparent governance. As the general election approaches, the APC’s strategic positioning will be crucial in maintaining public support and addressing key issues that resonate with voters. The party must also focus on engaging with grassroots movements to ensure that their policies align with the needs of the community. By fostering open dialogue and actively listening to constituents, they can build a stronger connection with the electorate and enhance their chances of success in the upcoming election. This approach not only strengthens their platform but also cultivates trust among potential voters. Ultimately, a responsive and inclusive strategy could prove vital in securing a favorable outcome at the polls.
