US-Iran Historic Deal Reaches ‘End Of War

Iran and the United States announce a historic deal to put an end to hostilities.

After more than 17 hours of talks led by mediators in Tehran, the United States and Iran have announced the completion of a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) intended to end the conflict.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who supported the mediation efforts, confirmed in statements issued following the talks that the framework agreement has been completed and is currently undergoing formal implementation.

Reopening maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz is one of the first steps announced, and commercial navigation restrictions are anticipated to be removed in order to support the stabilization of international trade and the world’s energy markets.

Before a formal signing ceremony on June 19 in Switzerland, representatives from both nations are anticipated to convene in Doha this week for technical consultations.

According to reports, the agreement calls for an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. It also describes Iran’s nuclear program commitments, such as limitations on the development of nuclear weapons and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) oversight procedures.

The agreement could be one of the most important diplomatic developments in the Middle East in recent years if it is carried out as intended.
