Terrorists Demand N200 Million Ransom For Release Of Kebbi High Court Judge, Justice Bunza
During a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, Umar Muhammad Hadejia, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, revealed the ransom demand and gave updates on the ongoing rescue efforts and the investigation into the judge’s kidnapping.
The kidnapping of Justice Bunza in the early hours of Sunday from his home along Zogirma Road in Kebbi State’s Bunza Local Government Area has alarmed state residents, legal professionals, and members of the judiciary.
Hadejia claims that after the kidnappers made contact with the judge’s family in order to negotiate his release, the police learned of the ransom demand.
According to the commissioner, the family also told the police that the terrorists had gotten in touch with an Abuja High Court registrar while negotiating.
Residents were reassured by Hadejia that security agencies were handling the situation urgently and had sent personnel to key locations to guarantee the judge’s safe rescue and the apprehension of those responsible.
He revealed that a team of police officers and other security personnel had been sent to forests and suspected terrorist escape routes.
In order to stop the kidnappers from relocating the judge, the police commissioner added that checkpoints had been placed along important thoroughfares and other key routes.
He urged locals to maintain their composure while security forces work to find a solution, expressing hope that the current operations would result in Justice Bunza’s successful rescue.
