Muslim clerics have called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the country prepares for the 2027 general election.
The clerics made the appeal while speaking about the political direction of the country and the need for Nigerians to carefully consider the records, policies and leadership priorities of those seeking political office.
They urged citizens, particularly members of the Muslim community, to participate actively in the electoral process and make their choices based on what they believe will promote peace, development and good governance.
The call comes as political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gain momentum across the country. Although the election is still some time away, political parties, religious groups, civil society organisations and other stakeholders have increasingly begun expressing their positions on the future of Nigeria’s leadership.
The clerics reportedly highlighted some of the policies and initiatives of the Tinubu administration which they believe deserve consideration, while urging Nigerians to assess the government’s performance before making their decisions at the polls.
They also appealed for peaceful political participation, stressing the importance of avoiding violence, hate speech and actions capable of creating division among Nigerians during the election period.
