Abuja Disability Community Pledges 500 Votes for Tinubu, Appeals for Better Healthcare and Roads

The Karmajiji Disabilities Community in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has pledged the support of more than 500 eligible voters for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, while appealing to the government to address the community’s pressing infrastructure and healthcare challenges.

The community’s women leader, Rahina Haruna, made the pledge during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, October 15, 2026. She said residents were prepared to support Tinubu’s re-election bid despite the difficulties they continue to face in their daily lives.

According to Haruna, the community has approximately 500 eligible voters, including men, women and students. She expressed hope that the administration would continue its efforts and that residents would benefit from improved living conditions in the years ahead.

However, alongside the political pledge, the community leader highlighted several challenges affecting residents, particularly people living with disabilities who often face additional barriers to accessing essential services.

One of the major concerns raised was the poor condition of roads leading into the community. Haruna described the access route from the main road along the Airport Road corridor as difficult to navigate, pointing to flooded ditches, open gutters and the absence of proper motorable roads.

She explained that the situation creates serious difficulties for residents trying to move between their homes and the main road. For people with physical disabilities, navigating such conditions can make routine activities and access to transportation even more challenging.

Haruna therefore appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration to construct suitable access roads and improve the internal road network within Karmajiji. She said better infrastructure would make movement easier and help residents access essential services without facing unnecessary obstacles.

The community leader also drew attention to the economic difficulties affecting households. She said rising food prices, growing family responsibilities and the cost of educating children had placed additional pressure on residents, leaving some families struggling to meet their basic needs.

Beyond roads and the cost of living, healthcare remains a major concern for the community. Haruna said the local primary healthcare centre lacks the capacity to handle serious emergencies, including situations requiring blood transfusions and complications during childbirth.

She appealed for the clinic to be expanded and better equipped so residents could receive appropriate medical attention closer to home. Access to reliable healthcare is particularly important for people who may encounter transportation barriers or need urgent treatment.

Haruna also raised concerns about the experiences of some community members when seeking treatment at hospitals farther away in Abuja. She said residents had faced what she described as discriminatory treatment and social stigma, making it difficult for them to access healthcare with dignity.

She called on First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to support efforts to improve the community’s clinic and help ensure that residents receive respectful and appropriate medical care.

Education was another issue highlighted during the interview. Haruna appealed for assistance with completing a senior secondary school project in the community, saying the project had raised hopes of improving access to education for local children.

She expressed concern that the stalled project could leave students continuing to travel long distances to attend school. Completing the facility, she said, would help reduce that burden and improve educational opportunities for families living in Karmajiji.

The community’s appeal highlights the connection between political representation and the everyday needs of residents. While Haruna expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, her remarks also placed emphasis on the need for practical improvements in healthcare, education, roads and living conditions.

As preparations and discussions surrounding the 2027 elections continue, the community’s position underscores the importance of addressing the needs of people living with disabilities and ensuring that public infrastructure is accessible to everyone.

For Karmajiji residents, the priorities raised include safer roads, a more capable healthcare facility, improved access to education and relief from the financial pressures affecting households. Their appeals now place attention on whether the relevant authorities will respond with concrete measures to improve conditions in the community.
