Islamic New Year, Osun Declare Wednesday Public Holiday Ahead Of The Celebration

In honor of Hijira 1448 AH, the Osun State Government has declared that Wednesday will be a public holiday in the state.
This was stated in a statement that was obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday and signed by Rasheed Aderibigbe, the Commissioner for Home Affairs.
According to Aderibigbe, the event signifies the start of the Islamic New Year.
“To honor Hijira 1448 AH, the Osun State Government is happy to declare that Wednesday, June 17, 2026, will be a public holiday.

As we commemorate Hijra 1448 AH, greetings to our Muslim brothers and sisters.
Part of the statement said, “May this occasion bring peace, prosperity, and unity to our great state.”
Additionally, the government urged citizens to avoid rancour and joyfully take part in the events and festivities that foster harmony and solidarity.
“However, residents are encouraged to shun rancor and disharmony and joyfully participate in festivities and celebrations promoting unity and togetherness,” the statement continued.
After the Muharram crescent moon is seen on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the Islamic year 1448 AH officially begins.
According to the Gregorian calendar, this lunar year runs from June 16, 2026, to roughly June 5, 2027.
