The ‘Online Police’ VeryDarkMan Has Accepted The Nigerian Police Invitation Over Allegations Against AIG Jimoh Moshood, Seeks NBA, Others Observers At Interview
Social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has accepted the invitation from the Nigeria Police Force and will comply with the summons, according to human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju and his legal team.
As a result, Adeyanju demanded an open investigation process involving impartial observers, such as civil society organizations and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Following a press release from the Nigeria Police Force on August 4, 2026, regarding the invitation extended to the activist due to allegations he made against a senior police officer, Zainab M. Otega, Esq., on behalf of the law firm representing VDM, issued a statement on August 5, 2026, outlining the position.
The legal team claims that their client reaffirmed his commitment to fully cooperating with the process and welcomed the Nigeria Police Force’s decision to start an official investigation into the issues he brought up.
“Our client reiterates his willingness to cooperate with the investigation and appreciates the decision of the Nigeria Police Force to begin an official investigation into the concerns he raised,” the statement said.
The attorneys emphasized that VDM has never opposed any legitimate investigation, despite what some have suggested.
“To be clear, our client has never opposed a legitimate investigation. Conversely, he is still prepared, willing, and available to accept any invitation that the Nigeria Police Force lawfully extends to him,” the legal team stated.
However, the legal team contended that the investigation should be carried out in a transparent, equitable, and accountable manner given the substantial public attention surrounding the matter, the status of the senior police officer involved, and the need to maintain public confidence.
The attorneys stated that although VDM would accept the invitation from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, they had asked for extra precautions to guarantee the integrity of the investigation.
The activist’s attorneys have requested, among other things, that members of civil society organizations, the NBA, and other impartial observers be present during the interview.
The statement claims that such a measure would help ensure the highest level of transparency while removing any chance of false information or misrepresentation resulting from the proceedings.
Additionally, the legal team asked that VDM’s attorneys be permitted to stay with him during the interview.
They argued that the requests were made in good faith and shouldn’t be seen as an effort to obstruct the Nigeria Police Force’s statutory or constitutional authority.
“These requests are made in good faith and are neither intended to undermine the Nigeria Police Force’s statutory investigative powers nor to dictate how it discharges its constitutional and statutory responsibilities,” the attorneys stated.
“Rather, they are made in recognition of the exceptional public importance of this matter and the need to ensure that the investigative process commands the confidence of the public.”
