Davido Rules Out APC Support in 2027, Says He Has No Presidential Candidate Yet

Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has clarified his political position ahead of the 2027 presidential election, declaring that he has not chosen a candidate to support but will not back the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The singer made the comments during an interview with News Central TV in August 2026, addressing questions about his political involvement and whether he would support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general election.

Davido explained that his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, had declared support for Tinubu, but that decision did not automatically mean he would adopt the same political position.

The musician said he was not obligated to support a particular candidate simply because of family ties, stressing that his political choices remained personal.

He also recalled his previous political engagements, explaining that he had supported different political movements and candidates at various points in the past.

Davido said he supported Atiku Abubakar when they were in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also recalled campaigning for the APC in 2015, when the party emerged through a merger involving several political groups and his late uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, was associated with the party.

However, the singer made it clear that his political position had changed and that he was not currently prepared to support the APC in the forthcoming election.

According to Davido, he had not yet identified a presidential candidate whose political vision and agenda he was willing to endorse.

His remarks have drawn attention because of his previous involvement in political campaigns, particularly his support for his uncle during the Osun governorship elections.

Davido was actively involved in Governor Adeleke’s campaign and publicly defended him during political disagreements with members of the APC. His involvement made him one of the prominent entertainers associated with political activities in Osun State.

The singer’s latest comments have also highlighted the distinction between the political choices of family members and the personal decisions of public figures.

As the 2027 elections approach, Davido’s position remains that he has not selected a presidential candidate, although he has ruled out supporting the APC at this stage.

His comments have added to the growing public discussion about celebrity involvement in politics, the influence of entertainers on political conversations and the choices Nigerians may make in the next general election.
