Kaduna Businessman Accuses Sheikh Gumi of Keeping His Moroccan Wife Away From Him

A Kaduna businessman, Nasir Musa Idris, has accused Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi of keeping his Moroccan wife away from him after he allegedly took her to the cleric’s residence for counselling.

Idris said he has been unable to reunite with his wife, Khadija Diab, for about 11 months after leaving her at Gumi’s residence in September 2025.

The businessman said he married Khadija, a Moroccan national, in October 2024 after travelling to Morocco to formalise the marriage and completing the necessary legal and immigration procedures before bringing her to Nigeria.

According to the account surrounding the dispute, the couple initially lived together in Kaduna without major difficulties. The situation reportedly changed in September 2025 after concerns were raised about their marriage.

Idris said he was informed that Gumi wanted to counsel his wife over complaints allegedly made about the marriage. Trusting the cleric because of his reputation as an Islamic scholar, he agreed to take Khadija to the cleric’s residence.

He alleged that what was supposed to be a counselling arrangement eventually turned into a prolonged dispute after he was unable to take his wife back home.

The businessman said repeated attempts to regain access to Khadija were unsuccessful, leaving him to seek assistance from authorities and eventually pursue legal action.

The matter has now developed into a wider legal dispute involving Gumi and members of his family.

Court filings linked to the case contain allegations relating to wrongful restraint or confinement, interference in the marriage, theft, defamation and the use of a disputed marriage-related document.

The documents reportedly name several people connected to Gumi, including his wife, Amal Ahmad Gumi, and some members of his family.
