Lagos State Workers To Get N50,000 Wages For The Month Of May, Approved by Sanwoolu

A N50,000 wage award for Lagos State’s public sector employees has been approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

During the International Workers’ Day celebration on Friday at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, the governor made the award announcement.

In an attempt to lessen the effects of the growing cost of living, Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, stated that the award would be applicable for the month of May.

The Lagos State Government has authorized an extra N50,000 for each employee for the month of May.

We are aware of the current economic difficulties, such as rising fuel costs and pressure from around the world. He stated, “This decision is to support our workforce during this period.”

The governor praised employees for their contributions to the state’s advancement, characterizing them as essential to Lagos’ expansion.

Why do laborers get up early every day to work toward creating and maintaining this state? Lagos has persevered because of this sense of obligation.

Lagos’s government is the reason it is not very good. “It is fantastic because its employees—teachers, medical professionals, craftspeople, and public servants—maintain the system’s functionality,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu identified housing and transportation issues as major issues that the government is addressing for workers.

We are aware of the significant challenges that arise when employees cannot afford to live close to their place of employment.

“We are investing in affordable housing because of this, with thousands of units already completed and more planned before the end of 2026,” he stated.

According to him, the state’s rent-to-own program only required a five percent down payment, and repayment plans were set up to guarantee affordability.

Regarding transportation, he stated that in order to facilitate mobility and boost productivity, the state has kept growing its rail network.

“With more coaches and continued expansion, we are improving our rail system, which has already transported millions of passengers,” he continued.

He continued by saying that the government had continued to provide retirees with pensions and would continue to put their welfare first.

Additionally, the governor reiterated the administration’s dedication to communication with organized labor.

Bode Agoro, the Head of Service, previously stated that sustainable development and efficient service delivery depended on a motivated workforce.
