Bandits Ambush Sunday Igboho Security Team In Oyo Forest During Intense Search-And-Rescue Operation
During an operation in Oyo State’s Old Oyo National Park, several members of a private security group connected to Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, were allegedly ambushed by suspected cross-border bandits, resulting in injuries.
According to reports, the incident happened while members of Iru Ekun, an Igboho-affiliated security group, were conducting an operation to locate and apprehend suspected kidnappers and other armed criminals thought to be operating within the vast forest reserve.
Before entering the area, the team used surveillance drones to track the movements of armed groups and locate potential criminal hideouts, according to sources familiar with the operation.
But when the operatives were allegedly attacked by heavily armed men who were thought to be part of international criminal networks, the mission reportedly descended into violence.
The sources claim that a violent gunfight broke out inside the forest after the suspected bandits opened fire on the approaching security guards.
During the exchange, gunfire is said to have injured several Iru Ekun team members. However, as of the time this report was filed, the precise number of injured people had not been formally confirmed.
Concerns about suspected kidnappers, bandits, and other armed groups operating in forests and remote communities throughout the Southwest have increased as a result of the incident.
Calls to the Oyo State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, were not returned as of the time this report was filed, so attempts to get a response from the Command were unsuccessful.
