FG Begins Nationwide Training of 5,000 Smart Meter Installers to Boost Electricity Metering

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the training of 5,000 smart meter installers across the country as part of efforts to improve electricity metering, reduce estimated billing and strengthen the nation’s power distribution system.

The initiative is expected to create employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians while supporting the ongoing rollout of smart electricity meters to homes, businesses and public institutions nationwide.

According to government officials, the programme forms part of broader reforms aimed at modernising Nigeria’s electricity sector through the adoption of advanced metering technology capable of improving transparency, efficiency and revenue collection.

The trainees, drawn from different states across the federation, will undergo intensive practical and technical instruction covering the installation, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of smart electricity meters.
